Meet Ritz!

Ritz is a chocolate colored miniature horse at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch.

Ritz’s Story

Ritz was rescued in November 2010 with 34 other equine and 2 goats. Ritz had
been living in a small pen with 4 other mini horses, a deceased horse and a young foal. There was also trash, debris and scraps of barbed wire in the pen with the animals. The only food source was moldy thick straw. Ritz was malnourished, suffering from external and internal parasites, skin infections, and untreated wounds.

Ritz’s Health

At Longmeadow he was put on a re-feeding program and treated for his wounds,
infestations and infections. He quickly responded to the treatment and became an energetic, young miniature horse. While recovering at Longmeadow, Ritz required surgery that was more complicated than a typical gelding procedure, but thanks to the donor supported Second Chances Equine Fund, Ritz received excellent care. He healed completely and started training.

Ritz is dewormed and vaccinated regularly. He has his teeth floated yearly by a veterinarian and his hooves trimmed every 6-8 weeks by a farrier.

Ritz’s Personality

Longmeadow staff and volunteers had decided that Ritz would make a
great Barn Buddy Mascot. He settled down significantly after his gelding and really enjoys attention from people. He gets along well with other animals and loves to put on a show when he is in public.

Your sponsorship will help feed, board and provide medical care for Ritz and all of the rescued farm animals who find a safe haven at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch.
