Twister Turns 13!

April 16, 2020

We can’t believe Twister is turning 13! While we typically celebrate his birthday during our annual Spring Fling event, this year’s celebrations will look a little bit different. We hope you’ll join us in a virtual celebration of Twister as he turns 13!

In honor of Twister’s artistic talents, you and your kids are invited to participate in coloring a beautiful picture of Twister! Download one (or both!) of these coloring sheets, print them out, and color them however you like. Then post a photo of your artwork using the hashtag #TwisterTurns13 and be sure to tag Longmeadow Rescue Ranch on Facebook and Instagram!

Mama, Twister’s mother, came to us after a double decker semi truck carrying 41 horses and one hinny wrecked on I-44 in Franklin County on September 27, 2006. The horses were being transported to a slaughter house in Illinois. Twenty-five horses and the hinny were saved. When she was rescued from the wrecked trailer, it was very obvious Mama was pregnant. We were concerned the baby would not survive such an ordeal. Fortunately, Mama continued her pregnancy and we all anxiously waited for the foal to be born. A healthy Twister arrived about 9 p.m. the night of April 18, 2007.

Twister is one of many resident Barn Buddies at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch and he has lots of personality! In the winter of 2017, volunteers began using positive reinforcement training to teach Twister to hold a paint brush, and then to paint. He now paints several times a week!

We look forward to celebrating with you in person at a rescheduled Spring Fling event (stay tuned for more details!), but in the meantime, thank you for celebrating with us from afar!

You can also make a donation to honor Twister as he celebrates his birthday!
