Horseback Riding Lessons

- Longmeadow Rescue Ranch adopters
- Riders who bring their own horse (will need an up-to-date coggins)
- Riders without their own horse (will ride a Longmeadow lesson horse)
Whether you're continuing your journey with a newly adopted horse, dreaming of owning a horse one day, or just starting out in your horse journey, our lessons are designed to build confidence, skill and strong horsemanship foundations.
If you are an adopter, lessons with your newly adopted horse will help you understand the training horse has already received at the Ranch and teach you the tools and techniques needed to continue that training successfully at home.
Each lesson includes 45* minutes of riding time (tacking and untacking are not included).
*time in saddle may vary

Longmeadow Little Riders Program
Designed for ages 3 - 6, our Little Riders Program introduces young children to the joy of horses in a safe, playful and confidence-building environment. Children will love spending time with our rescued horses while learning how to care for them through gentle grooming, lead-line riding (with safety as our top priority!) and fun, interactive games that build balance, coordination and confidence. Along the way, they'll explore the basics of horsemanship in a relaxed, kid-friendly way that keeps learning fun!
Each lesson includes 45 minutes total, approximately 25 minutes in saddle.
Give your little one a positive, educational first step into the world of horses!
Courtney grew up in Missouri in an equestrian home. As a young adult, she worked as an assistant trainer at Shadbolt Cattle Company in Merriman, Nebraska. There she refined her skills training young horses under saddle. She worked with unhandled horses and trained them to become working ranch horses. She then trained under Saddlebred and Hunter Jumper trainer, Kris Wallace, at Columbia Equestrian Center. While under Kris’ guidance, Courtney assisted in starting horses over fences and preparing them for their future eventing careers.
Courtney’s passion lies in the rehabilitation and retraining of rescued horses. She specializes in training equine who have been mistreated, working to reconstruct the trust lost due to their prior experiences. She has been a trainer at Longmeadow Rescue Ranch since 2018. Her goal is to foster an environment in which she can discover and nurture the strengths of both horse and rider. Courtney also teaches riding lessons at Longmeadow to help increase the riding skills and general equine knowledge of potential adopters, volunteers, and staff members.
