12 Horses Rescued From Starvation and Neglect

November 18, 2022

Late last week, the Humane Society of Missouri’s Animal Cruelty Taskforce rescued 12 horses from two properties just in time to save them from a dire future as winter approaches. Concerned members of the community contacted us to report horses suffering from starvation and neglect. We acted immediately to bring these animals to safety.

“The news and images are horrific,” said HSMO President Kathy Warnick. The caring citizens who alerted us about these animals undoubtedly saved the lives of these innocent horses.

The condition of the horses was shocking and heartbreaking. All are seriously underweight and many have hooves so overgrown that walking is extremely difficult and painful. In addition, others are suffering from blindness and dental issues.

Our team brought the horses to Longmeadow Rescue Ranch, where they are receiving the nutrition they require to gain weight and the veterinary care they so desperately need to begin to heal. Their recovery will be lengthy and expensive.
