It is hard to believe, but this joyous occasion began as a tragedy.
In October of 2020, Longmeadow Rescue Ranch arrived on the scene of a terrible trailer truck accident on I-44. The trailer was filled with horses that were headed for slaughter. The 15 horses that survived the accident would have a very long journey to recovery. Eleven of the 15 horses went directly to HSMO’s Longmeadow Rescue Ranch to recover. Four received intensive care at a local veterinary hospital and once they were stable enough, continued their recovery at Longmeadow. One of the surviving horses, Journey, underwent a routine pregnancy check via ultrasound about a month after the accident. It was at that time we learned she was pregnant! Six months ago today (Feb. 16, 2022) Journey gave birth to a healthy colt named Cruiser.
Cruiser will be weaned from his mom soon and has been moving up quickly in halter sizes! His castration appointment has been scheduled, and he has been receiving all of his basic vaccines. Happy half birthday to this darling gent!
