Scarlett

Scarlett is a 16-year-old sorrel mare who was so weak she staggered as she walked to the rescue trailer. She had pressure sores all over her bony body. In her early days at the ranch, she required round-the-clock care.

As Scarlett neared her maintenance weight, ranch staff happily discovered she was already trained for riding.

Rehabilitating starved horses like Scarlett takes several months of vigilant care. Because they have been without nourishment for long periods of time, severely under weight horses are fed small amounts of food every two hours throughout the day as well as night feedings. Fortunately, Longmeadow is there to give horses like Scarlett a second chance. And our wonderful adopters give them the forever home they deserve.
